Police visit

During Term One, Year one as part of their HSIE unit of work, looked at rules. They were visited by a number of people who spoke about rules in different environments. At the end of term, Year one were very fortunate to be visited by Senior Constable’s Felicity and Natalie. The students had the opportunity to ask questions, try on the handcuffs, life vests and uniforms. The highway patrol car even came to visit. They enjoyed sitting in the back of the police van, the one and only time this will happen I am sure. I think the highlight for students and staff though was the flashing lights and the siren. Thank you to the Police from Bowral station for a wonderful visit.

Making Popcorn in the Senior School

Last term Year 1 and Kindergarten completed a unit of work which involved investigating our senses.  Year 1 drew a map of their school playground using the sense of sight and included images of things they could hear. They listened to a number of different sounds and classified them according to whether the sound made them feel good or bad.  The favourite challenge for all was the blind folded tasting and touching. A number of students liked the taste of tonic water, everyone disliked salty water and loved sugar water.  Jelly was the surprise component for touch, no one could guess what their hand was touching. To complete the unit of study we went to the Senior school’s Home Science room and made popcorn. We used all our senses; we saw and could hear it pop, we enjoyed touching it before and after cooking, it tasted and smelt terrific. A big Thank you to Mrs Dietz for a wonderful lesson.
