A. Identify broad areas that require separate review.
- learning needs: what does it mean to “learn” at Oxley College? In the past we have focused this question on the academic, physical and spiritual. We editd the Draft Mind Map (see graphic on right) at the April 4 ICT Committee Meeting.

From the Field
B. Develop generic review criteria.
For example:
a. What is the current situation with respect to technology in this area?
b. Do these meet current needs?
c. What are the expected needs in 2013?
- What emerging technologies could impact your learning area?
- Which might support and which might disrupt student learning?
- Technologies will continue to support increasingly personalised learning experiences. Envision a student learning your subjects unconstrained by the time and place of a classroom. Engage in some “what if” thinking: what-if a student had all the resources and support necessary, what might an ongoing interaction ook like between a student, the learning and the learning environment (including all this might entail). In other words, envision a more personalised learning experience.
d. What technology will be required to meet these needs?
- What staffing / professional learning changes might be anticipated to integrate the technologies?
e. What is the timeline required to meet these needs? (working back from 2013)
f. Etc.
C. Allocate role of chairing the various research teams
Based upon the (edited) Mind Map above, the areas for Research Teams are:
- Spiritual (Pastoral and other)
- Intellectual (Academic and other)
- Physical (Co-Curricular and other)
- Administrative (Business and other)
- Emerging Trends (What technologies are likely in the next 5 years?)
- Infrastructure (What are the ramifications to Oxley College’s networks, servers, hardware & software?)
From the April 4 ICT meeting, the following Research leadership positions were decided upon. The teams will liaise with the heads of related committees where one exists (e.g., SB with HoHs) as well as other interested staff and community members.
Research Team Leaders & their Tasks
BH & JR
- Business
GW
- Oxley Community
PFi
- Pastoral
SA
- Academic
TM
- Co-Curricular
Overarching Tasks:
- MB – Infrastructure
- TM – Emerging Technologies
Note: Does this fit in with the Prof Learning aspects from Curriculum Mapping and Teaching and Learning? Do these teams need to overlap?
Once the Research Team leaders have been set, leaders should decide what processes they will use to collect information:
- In-person interviews
- Online Surveys (parents, students, teachers, stakeholders, etc.) note: all questions from the various research teams will be compiled into one survey.
- Review of emerging technologies
- Expert panel & discussion
- Representative panels
- Online anonymous discussions
- School visits (MB)
Leaders should alert the ICT Committee chairperson (TM) regarding any support they need such as creating online surveys, setting up online discussions, holding meetings, etc.
D. Develop timelines
When do research teams need to complete:
- collecting data?
- preparing reports?
Events
April
- TM Brisbane Grammar School consultancy on 1:1 mobile learning
May 13 – 15
- Curriculum Mapping Workshop
June 18, 2008
- Emerging Technologies Conference: University of Wollongong
Timeline
April
- Organise meetings, prepare questionnaires, etc.
May
- Hold meetings
- Attend Personal Learning events
- Distribute questionnaires
- Gather feedback
June
- Hold meetings
- Attend Personal Learning events
- Distribute questionnaires
- Gather feedback
July
- Collate findings?
August
- Present findings?
E. Research teams collect information
Chairs of Research teams are members of the ICT Committee, but here is an opportunity for staff to join a specific team.
F. ITC Committee to synthesise research teams’ reports.
What is the time frame? Do we need to go off-campus to look at other set-up's etc?
G. ITC Committee’s final report
Presented to Head of College on August…?
