The following is a guide for starting the “Food Webs – Ponds” program.
1. Look for the “Oxley Pond Web” icon on your desktop. Double-click it.
2. The lily pad welcome screen will appear. Click anywhere on the screen.

3. The licensing message will appear. Click “OK”.
4. Cancel the Help Wizard.

5. Click on the “Load new Environment” button.

6. In the “File name” field type: \\oxley1\oxleyfoodwebs and click “Open”

7. Look for the file “oxley smal_enviro” and either open it.
8. The “Current Environment” should now show as “oxley smal_enviro”. Click on “Start a New Web”

9. Click on “Species” to get started. Choose the species you have observed or know to be in the local environment.

10. When you have them on the screen (you can move them around), create food webs by clicking on one species and then on one that it eats. This will create a linked arrow between the species. Do this until you have completed the food web.
11. When you have finished, use the “File” menu and “Save Web as”. Make sure you save the file in the “My Documents” folder with a filename like “your_name_oxleyweb”.
Next time, you “Start New Web” or “Open Saved Web” and go back to what you have just finished.
