Tudor House
Welcome, I’m Will L. and I am the Tudor House team leader. Today the boys came to Oxley College to participate in the OPALS program . They started by drawing designs for new ways to do things such as weighing elephants and testing cars, next they thought of what they would like to paint on their bedroom walls and then identified what obstacles stood in the way of them achieving their dreams. All the boys worked well as a team to complete these tasks.
Challenge A – Growing up in the Southern Highlands
Orlando and Nicholas worked with Belinda to plan and produce a short film about living in the Southern Highlands. Although I was not able to catch up with the boys to talk about their film, because they were to busy working to the very end, I did see that they made lots of progress and saw them working well during the day. Well done I hope the film turned out well.
Challenge B – 2020 Vision of Science
Nathan and James worked with Isaac to research personal technologies. These are technologies such as phones, that allow access to information. They then gathered their information into a slide show with help from Imogen from St Paul’s. The research carried out by the boys was thorough and the slide shown was clear and informative. Well done to both of you.
Challenge C – Building a Bridge to the Future
Jordan and Ralph worked with David to construct a bridge out of spaghetti and hot glue they also researched the science behind building bridges (e.g. what shapes are the strongest and why?). The bridge had to be both light and strong. Their bridge weighed in at 40.82 grams and held an impressive 900 grams. Jordan and Ralph’s bridge came third overall in the the strongest bridge contest. Congratulations.
Challenge D – Impressive Impressions
Ryan and Lachlan worked with Harry and the drama team who worked on improving public speaking and first impression skills. They also participated in a production at the end of the day in which Ryan played a big part and both the boys were well spoken and confident.
All of the boys worked well through out the day and were always well behaved. It was a pleasure to help them and I hope they enjoyed the day as much as I did.

Thanks again to all the boys for being so well behaved, hope you had a great time. It was good to hear that Tudor is still a great school and all the boys are looking foward to futher schooling, at Oxley or Kings or where ever they may be going. Thanks again.
