Yr 9A Baroque Videos Part 1
Year 9 have read an article about the phenomenon ‘Funtwo’ created on YouTube when he recorded himself playing the ‘Canon Rock’ originally written by Pachelbel. He didn’t play Vai, Slash, Clapton, Satriani or Metallica. Instead he ‘rockafied’ a very difficult piece to play on the guitar from the Baroque Era. Year 9A were then asked to research a baroque composer and find two videos showing a composer’s works in a traditional style, and then a ‘revamped style.’ This is what they have come up with.

Re, Zac’s traditional version of canon. this is a great pwice and uses many different instruments in all different layers this piece also uses that word that mr wright talked about that means that it slowly fades out.
The revamped version of canon is great, this guitarist chooses to change it around himself in many places, this is good however, there are some spots where i think the funtwo version was much better. i could go on about this guitarist but it would be a very “youtube ish” comment.

Tim’s traditional- the instrument used in this piece was the organ. This piece sounded eerie, dark and scary. The long chords were followed by an unbroken flow of notes. Throughout the piece the dynamics didn’t change and it rallentando during the end, to signify the ending of the piece.
Tim’s revamped- the electric guitar and the drums were used throughout this piece. The rhythms vary in parts and the dynamics stay pretty much the same without any sudden change. Again at the end it rallentando and longer chords were being used. The piece is homophonic and the revamped version sounds more upbeat, electric and course.

Tradidtion
The dynamics in this piece vary from what kind of story the pice tell. I think it becomes stronger throughout the verses then the chorus. This is because each verse plays something differebt and shows a unique sound to the song.
The revamped is much more exciting because it has changed and very classical pice into a rock guitarist and that is very difficult to do due to pitch and tune. Also in the traditional one there are six violinist and one chello, where in the revamped version their is just one guy playing by himself doing a two part piece.

Tim’s JS Bach
It has many varying dynamics and it has an eerie feeling to it like something is coming to get you. The music is very dramatic and seems like it was ready for the really shocking event to happen. The instruments vary in the songs from more phantom of the opera to calmer instruments.

Traditional - This has a mixed feeling. It sounds like it is telling a story and I see that very strongly therefore having more than one feel. Sometimes it is sad, scary or eerie, but other times it is happy or upbeat.
Revamped - I like the revamped version as well. It is out together very well and still shows the story but not as strong. It still has the ups and downs and feeling that the traditional one does. Having more than one instrument in the traditional also makes it easier to listen to.

It has a lot of changes in dynamics. The tone colour is quite bouncy and it has a lot of jumps from high to low notes. I like the choice of using a guitar for this piece for you can put distortion on particular notes to make them stand out. The use of a drum beat helps give it a lively texture.
I enjoyed this piece

Ischabel - Henry Purcell Revamped
The dynamic in this peice are very varied. With the slow build up of a synthisiser and a loud step to make an explosion of sound. The evil peice makes the perfect death march. The one instrument used in this peice was the piano.
Tim - J.S. Bach Revamped
The same dynamics were applied through the peice. The evil dracular feeling is created well. The distorted gutair is the only instrument used.
p.s. sorry for the spelling mistakes.
