Author : Margaret Peterson Haddix

YouTube Preview ImageHave you read any of the books written by Margaret Peterson Haddix? I first read one of her books about 6 years ago when students at my school recommended the book “Among the Hidden”. This story is about a society where families are only allowed to have 2 children. What would you do if you accidentally had another child? Well this story begins by introducing us to the third child … a hidden child… This book leads into the series “The Shadow Children” … View the trailer.

Haddix has another series … “The Missing” … In Book 1 : Found …. teenagers discover they are adopted … not so different … but the curcumstances of their past … leads them to a dramactic future as they are kiddnapped and sent into a Time Travellers adventure. This series is Science Fiction with a twist that will have you thinking … could this really happen? What choices would you make? Look for these titles on the Library shelves… and soon to arrive …

2011 Welcome

Welcome to new students and parents.

We have two part time Library Assistants: Mrs Penny Everingham and Ms Karen Bell. I am Mrs Petah Fishburn, Head of Library and Teacher Librarian. We are here to assist the Oxley learning community in accessing their information and recreational reading needs.

The Library is open in the morning before school at 8:00am each day. We are open Monday to Thursday until 6:00pm, giving students the opportunity to access Library resources to complete homework and research tasks. We also encourage students to borrow reading material for their own interests.

Junior students are allowed to borrow 3 fiction books and 3 non-fiction books for a period of two weeks. Senior students are able to borrow 5 fiction and 5 non-fiction books. Students are also able to borrow magazines, audio books and DVDs (relating to class work). Students may renew items if they need them for a longer period.

Students are able to access the OLIVER library catalogue (OPAC) via their student login to the Oxley intranet. Through this page they can also access the Encyclopaedia Britannica Online and eLibrary. Access at home is also available via oxleylearning.org. As year 7 visit the Library over the next 2 weeks for a Library orientation lesson, they will have these features explained to them.

We value the feedback from parents as we attempt to provide Library resources and services that will enable your child’s success and enjoyment of their school experience at Oxley.

Kind regards,

Mrs Petah Fishburn

Head of Library

Time to return ALL library books

As our year is drawing to an end we are asking ALL students to return their Library books by FRIDAY, 26 November, 2010. Christmas book

We also ask that students take an extra look for any OXLEY COLLEGE books they may find. Unfortunately some books have left the Library without being “borrowed”. We would greatly appreciate the return of these books.

GOOD NEWS:  Students may borrow over the Christmas Holidays if they ask the Library Staff … these books will be due back the first week of term 1, 2011.
