Leadership Camp – 8th to 9th August 2009 Fitzroy Falls Conference Centre
The Oxley College Student Leadership Program was established with the aim of providing service, acting as a supportive link between staff, students and throughout the community that creates opportunities for student involvement. The current recruits of the program, 34 Year 11 students, recently met at the Fitzroy Falls Conference Centre to further develop the ideas, goals, purpose and themes for the program as it continues into 2009/10. The students have organised committees that focus on charity, community service, prefects, co-curricular captains, communications, environment and land care, performing and creative arts and academic that, through innovative leadership styles, seek to communicate their goals, aims and objectives to the wider Oxley community.
The camp was broken into sessions, ranging from games, activities, a movie to open discussions and group work; highlighted by an excellent session by Mr Craig, who gave a brief history of leadership at Oxley College, and provided an insight into further leadership opportunities beyond the completion of year 12 and the HSC.
The students have been progressing very well throughout the program so far, moulding it to the criteria of student leadership at Oxley College as well as setting a standard for future year groups to follow under the motto of ‘Maturity, Growth and Involvement’.
The camp could not have been possible without the wonderful help of Ms. Warda and Mr. Bollom, whose commitment is much appreciated.
