Japanese Essay Competition
The essay contest is conducted by the Embassy of Japan and Consulates-General of Japan in Australia. Students from any Australian school between Years 7 to 12 are eligible to enter.
There are three entry divisions:
- JUNIOR A DIVISION (Years 7-8) [700-1000 words]
If you could meet a famous Japanese person, who would you choose and why? In what way has he/she contributed to Japanese society?
- JUNIOR B DIVISION (Years 9-10) [1100-1400 words]
Doraemon, a popular Japanese anime character, was recently chosen as a cultural ambassador for Japan. What popular icon could effectively represent Australia and why? How could this icon be used to promote Australia among Japanese youth?
- SENIOR DIVISION (Years 11-12) [1500-1800 words]
Japan, like Australia, is geographically isolated from its neighbours. Do you think this is reflected in traditional Japanese culture and thinking, and why/why not?

Japanese Assessment Task Term 3 Year 8
You will be marked on presentation, grammar and content.
Part A: Japanese Essay Competition in English
Due: August 27th
Worth: 30% of this task mark
Part B: Make a powerpoint presentation with Japanese script writing or a voice recording slide show.
Worth: 70% of this task mark
You are to complete the daily routines of 3 seperate days of the week.
The routine may be your own or a make believe family. e.g The Simpsons
You must include times, days of the week, the subject, correct verbs and any other grammAr we will cover the following weeks.
Due: September 15th

Using から to say because….
If you want to use the word because in a sentence you have to state the reason first and then the outcome.
e.g わたしは本がすき から しゅうまつによく本をよみます。
Because I like books, I often read on the weekends.
