			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Year 7 have their first Science assessment task on Wed 7 March. It is a 35 min written test that will be done in class, with multiple choice and short answer questions. The test will involve drawing and students will need to bring with them a pen, pencil, ruler and eraser. Students will need to revise the work done so far this term on the topic &#8220;Investigating&#8221;, including:</p>
<ul>
<li>Branches of Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics etc.)</li>
<li>Lab Safety</li>
<li>The Bunsen Burner</li>
<li>Lab apparatus</li>
<li>Measuring</li>
<li>Writing practical reports</li>
<li>Carrying out a &#8220;fair test&#8221;</li>
</ul>
<p>If you have any questions &#8211; ask your Science teacher.</p>

<li>Choose one of the case study videos above as a model / inspiration.</li>
<li>Analyse the video to see what you think is effective. Consider: Camera angles, extreme close-ups, voice over, use of titles, mis en scene, attitude, message, sequencing, locations, etc.</li>
<li>Review the <a href="http://oxleylearning.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/video_rubric.doc">commercial rubric</a> to focus your effort and achieve success.</li>
<li>Have a creative brainstorming session – let the ideas run free – give yourself 20 minutes, then see if you’ve made some progress. If so, keep going. If not, re-evaluate how you’re managing your brainstorming session.</li>
<li>Use the <a href="http://schools.shorelineschools.org/home_education/Forms/Video%20Storyboard.pdf">storyboard worksheet</a> to design your video.</li>
<li>Lights! Camera! Action! – Shoot your scenes. Shoot several takes of each shot. Try them from different angles. Shoot more than you think you’ll need – extra bits are helpful when it comes to editing. Replay what you have right away to see if everything is recorded the way you wanted. Be very careful of background or wind noise. These can be a big problem.</li>

<h4>Other Tablets</h4>
<p>This market is still growing with new models coming out regularly. A survey of reviews usually suggests that few tablets approach the ease of use and functionality of the iPad2 with (at this point) the most viable alternatives being the ASUS Transformer and Lenovo ThinkPad (see below).</p>
<h3>A Caution about most Laptops</h3>
<p>Most laptops and netbooks do not have adequate battery life for a whole school day. If you plan to use one of these that meets all the other requirements, you must be able to use backup batteries, not rely on re-charging.</p>
<h3>Recommendation, August 2011</h3>
<p>The bottom line is:</p>
<ol type="1">
<li>If you are not in the market immediately to buy a tablet, it never hurts to wait, upgrades to both recommended systems are upcoming)</li>
<li>Either the iPad2 or ASUS EEE Pad Transformer (with some accessories) meets the minimum requirements</li>
<li>For Oxley College 2012 will be a year of transition: introducing the Australian Curriculum, making all learning resources available online (including textbooks) and enabling students to BYOT (Bring Your Own Technology). None of these important initiatives will be completed at the beginning of 2012, but will be by the end of the school year and fully implemented for 2013. If you would rather wait until the dust settles a little, tablets will cost less &amp; have more features, the digital curriculum will be in place, and the College has plenty of desktop computers and sets of NetBooks and iPad1s that students can use.</li>
