HSC preparation
In addition to the material I provided in last week’s Weekly Record about study and preparation addressed to all students, I particularly draw the attention of our Year 12 students to the following site.
Students Online is a rich source for information about each individual student’s Higher School Certificate. The site is located at:
http://studentsonline.bos.nsw.edu.au/
Each HSC student can Log in with their Student Number and HSC PIN to check their personal HSC details. The personal account, through My Details, will enable each student to
- See their personal exam timetable;
- Check they are enrolled in the correct courses;
- Check their contact details and submit their email address for updates and to help if they lose their HSC PIN;
- Submit their mobile number and also pre-register to receive their results by SMS in December; and
- Change their HSC PIN to another number if they prefer.
Please be aware that Oxley College staff do not have access to a student’s personal account and cannot make these changes for them.
The site also contains, under Tips and Tools, advice on:
- Preparing for their written exams;
- Study tips and materials;
- Taking the exam; and
- What to expect in the exam paper.
Finally I draw your attention to the section titles, Your results, as this provides information on:
- How your HSC results are reported?
- How are results determined?
- What does the HSC testamur look like?
- How does moderation work?
The information on Moderation includes the importance of school based assessment that relies on the submission by the College of HSC Rank for each subject and the gaps between final results. Further information on the moderation process for the HSC mark can be obtained at the following site:
http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/hsc-results/moderation.html
Here you will find a more detailed explanation of the importance of Rank Order and Relative Differences (Gaps) with the school based assessment.
