Students Online is a rich source for information about each individual student’s Higher School Certificate.  The site is located at:

http://studentsonline.bos.nsw.edu.au/

Each HSC student can Log in with their Student Number and HSC PIN to check their personal HSC details.  The personal account, through My Details, will enable each student to

  • See their personal exam timetable;
  • Check they are enrolled in the correct courses;
  • Check their contact details and submit their email address for updates and to help if they lose their HSC PIN;
  • Submit their mobile number and also pre-register to receive their results by SMS in December; and
  • Change their HSC PIN to another number if they prefer.

Please be aware that Oxley College staff do not have access to a student’s personal account and cannot make these changes for them.

The information on Moderation includes the importance of school based assessment that relies on the submission by the College of HSC Rank for each subject and the gaps between final results.  Further information on the moderation process for the HSC mark can be obtained at the following site:

Year 9 Design and Technology examination guide

Year 9 Design and Technology 2011 end-of-year examination outline

Exam structure

The examination is in three sections and will last for 11/2 hours. Take with you pens, pencils rubber and ruler. Study the question paper briefly at the start to decide which questions you can answer the quickest first so you can devote more time to the challenging ones.

Section I     Multiple choice questions worth one mark each. The questions will explore your understanding of the components of the stages of the Design Process and how you have applied this to your own designs, elements and principles of design, furniture design and graphic design using computer software.
Section II    Short answer questions based on design practices.
Section III   An extended answer question based on stimulus material.

The Design Process

Stage 1: Clarify the problem
Analyse the brief; Consider all factors; Criteria for success; Time planning
Stage 2: Investigate and research
Stage 3: Generate ideas
Brainstorm using mind maps, word association, inspiration, lateral thinking.
Thumbnail sketches: quick concept sketch to develop and progress your ideas.
Stage 4: Choose the best solution
Use PMIs to help select your best ideas and justify your final choice.
Stage 5: Plan and produce
Work out final design using scale drawings, material and cutting lists, making models and/or prototypes.
Stage 6: Test and evaluate
Test if your design works as intended and evaluate. Evaluate against the Criteria for Success.

Year 8 French Semester Two Examination 2011 Study Guide

Ça Alors! Book 1, Chapters 1 – 6 is assumed knowledge.

 

The examination will be based on Ça Alors! Book 1, Chapters 7 & 8, and Ça Alors! Book 2, Chapters 1 & 2.

 

The written paper is 90 minutes long, including 30 minutes of listening.

 

The mark distribution is as follows:

 

v Listening                               30%

v Reading Comprehension 35%    (answers in English)

v Writing                                   20%    (including grammar and a written task)

v Speaking                               15%    (a conversation, partly prepared, with your teacher)

 

Topic areas:

  • About you (name, age, DOB, address)
  • Pets
  • Likes and dislikes
  • School
  • Friends (descriptions)
  • Your house

 

 

For the written paper, you should revise:

 

  • ‘à’ and ‘de’ contractions
  • possessive pronouns (ma, ta, sa etc)
  • animals
  • time telling
  • meals
  • timetables
  • transport
  • verb conjugations of: ‘avoir’, ‘être’, ‘aller’, ‘faire’, ‘partir’, ‘savoir,’ ‘vouloir’, ‘pouvoir’, ‘devoir’ etc
  • verb conjugations of ‘-er’, ‘-ir’, ‘-re’ verbs
  • expressions with ‘avoir’
  • irregular adjectives
  • demonstrative adjectives (this, that, these, those)
  • body parts
  • prepositions
  • the weather

8M2 What to bring to your Maths exam….

You will need to bring:

 

1. 2 pens

2. 2 pencils

3. sharpener

4. eraser

5. ruler

6. calculator

7. geometry set

 

If you forget any of the above, you won’t be able to complete the exam effectively.

Year 8 Mathematics

Study Guide – Semester 2, 2011

8M2 (Mrs MacBean’s Class only)

Note:         The examination will focus on work from Semester 2, but will include material from Semester 1 and Mathematics you have covered previously in Years 7 & 8.

 

Semester 1

Using the calculator:

Understanding how to use your calculator for all the techniques we have studied. These include addition, subtraction, multiplication and division as well as knowing how to cope with calculations involving square and cube roots, raising a number to a power, fractions and ensuring calculations are done in the correct order by the use of brackets.

 

Pythagoras:                    [Chapter 3 text]

Knowing and understanding the relationship between the lengths of the sides of right angled triangles described in Pythagoras’ theorem (a2 + b2 = c2). Know how to use Pythagoras’ theorem to solve problems such as finding the length of the hypotenuse or one of the shorter sides of a RAT.

 

Percentages:                    [Chapter 4 text]

Converting percentages to fractions and decimals and vice versa. Finding a percentage of a quantity and expressing one quantity as a percentage of another. Calculating percentage increase and decrease of a quantity. Profit and loss calculations involving percentages. Calculations involving commission and simple interest. Finding a quantity if a percentage is known.

 

Algebra:                         [Chapter 5 text]

Adding and subtracting algebraic terms. Multiplying and dividing algebraic terms. Using algebra to represents situations described in words or diagrams. Index notation. Understanding grouping symbols and knowing how to expand and simplify them. Factorising algebraic expressions. Algebraic fractions – adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing them

 

Area and volume:                        [Chapter 9 text]

Calculating areas of triangles, rectangles and composite shapes made up of them. Finding the area of special quadrilaterals such as the parallelogram, trapezium, rhombus and kite. Calculating the volume of prisms.

 

Ratio, rates and scale drawings:                  [Chapter 11]

Understanding what a ratio is, how it is described and how to calculate ratios. Finding equivalent ratios and solving problems involving ratios. Dividing a quantity into a given ratio. What is a rate and how do you solve problems involving rates. Scale drawings, calculating real and scale dimensions.

 

 

 

Semester 2

 

Equations & Formulae                             [Chapter 10]

Solving simple equations. Equations with pronumerals on both sides. Equations with grouping symbols. Problem solving with equations. Substitution into formulas.

 

Deductive Geometry                     [Chapter 7]

Adjacent angles, angles at a point, vertically opposite angles. Angles in parallel lines. Angle sum of a  triangle. Isosceles & equilateral triangles. Angle sum of a quadrilateral.

 

 

Graphs, Tables and Statistics         [Chapters 14 & 8]

Collecting and organizing data. Graphs to represent data (line, bar, histograms, sector & column). Reading graphs. Mean, mode, median & range.
